Why Do I Need a Business Coach and Business Coaching?

“You maybe on the right road. But stand still long enough and you’ll get run over”– said someone far more important than I.

But it’s very true. And at no other time in the last 100 years, have we seen as many changes to the way you work, the way yo do business or how you grow a business, no matter what size or industry.

It could also be said, never before have business owners needed more experience, perspective and forward thinking when it comes to growth or even survival.

There is so much happening and it’s impossible to stand still. Otherwise your competitors will find a better, faster and smarter way of doing things which means your customers and clients will find someone or something new. Fast. And that’s going to hurt.

The Benefits of a Business Coach

Is business coaching more valuable than a business degree or cheap online programmes and courses?

Most business owners enter their professional careers not understanding how to start, run and grow a business. And it’s no-ones fault. We were taught, trained and learned to be good at doing what we do, and not the other stuff that goes with the selling and marketing what they do. At times, this makes business owners feel lost, or worse, like a fraud pretending to know what they’re doing.

It’s hard to be successful without a clear understanding of how business works. That’s where an experienced business coach can be crucial for any professional or business owner who wants to take their career to the next level.

I know that running a business is more than just a good idea made profitable – it’s a system of unspoken rules, rarely taught by Business Studies, MBA courses or online programmes. If you are attempting to profitably grow your business or career, you need elite business knowledge—knowledge that creates real tangible value.

Even if you had the time, access, or money to attend any of these business programmes, you would still be missing the practical knowledge that propels the best and brightest forward, along with he accountability to get things done properly and in a timely way.

I realised quite quickly that owning and running my own business was often a very lonely place. And keeping on top of what I needed to do for my customers and clients was difficult enough without the pressure of having to look at what everyone else was doing or at what I could be doing better and smarter. I realised that in the business world, coaching is becoming a necessity not only for your business growth and success, but also for your business to continue to be sustainable and viable.

9 Characteristics of a Successful Business and it’s Owner

Business coaching is about helping owners, directors, managers and it’s employees make the most and grow these 9 areas that form  a successful business:

  • Character: What kind of person succeeds in business?
  • Leadership: How do you unite a team around a mission?
  • Personal Productivity: How can you all get more done in less time?
  • Messaging: Why aren’t your customers paying more attention?
  • Marketing: How should you build a sales funnel for your business?
  • Business Strategy: How should a business really work?
  • Execution: How can we get things done?
  • Sales: How do I get and close more sales?
  • Management: What does good business management look like?

I become your silent business partner for anyone who feels lost, overwhelmed or frustrated by the modern business climate, and we implement what the most successful business leaders have known for years through the simple goals, processes and focus that takes businesses to their next level.

Every business; it’s owner, it’s directors, it’s managers and employees are unique, so I never use a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach in my business coaching for you or your company. I’m known to operate in a no-nonsense way, making you fully aware of what needs working on and why; what is positive and what is not, and where you and the business are leaving cash on the table. I only work with people who want to commit to getting the most out of their business or working lives; it just works better that way for everyone. I’ll work as fast, or as slow that is necessary, and everything that we work on, is your final decision. For coaching to work the client always needs to see the what, the when, the where, the how and most importantly, the why we’re doing what needs to be done.

Just a few words from a few of my clients…

Dr Andy Cope
Best Selling Author and Happiness Expert at Art of Brilliance

What can I say? Marc has a set of skills that nobody in our team has. We’re not a bad lot, but business acumen, hunger to exceed customer expectations and the ability to shout about the good stuff we’re doing were somehow lacking. So we’re lucky that we are now tapping into his skills. We see Marc as a very rare talent and are working with him on all sorts of happiness, wellbeing and ‘brilliant’ projects. He has a lovely mix of technical skills, business nouse, drive, enthusiasm and (most crucially) he’s a thoroughly nice bloke who wants to make a difference

Marc has a unique style of business coaching. Rather than wear a cheap suit and hide behind a franchise, Marc wears a white t-shirt, swears a bit and tells you what he really believes, rather than what a ‘one size fits all’ model tells him to say. As well as being a client of Marc’s, I have recommended several local business people consider using his coaching. While some initially were concerned having been used to the ‘C&A suit brigade’ of business coaches they were quickly won over by the results they saw produced by Marc’s coaching. The bottom line spoke loudest.

Marc’s approach is very different to that of a “normal” business coach. Goodness, he doesn’t even dress the way you’d expect a business coach to dress. But that’s what’s so great about him. He’s his own man and is brave enough to do things his own way. And it works! He’s got me to step out of my comfort zone (with a lot of nagging on his part!) and do things that I would rather not do but am glad I’ve done. And the best thing is that he cares. He really believes in the people he works with and is always at the end of a phone if ever you need to talk. Having that support is invaluable when you’re a small business owner.

Marc offers the best advice around – and unlike many he won’t sugarcoat the pill! If you ask for his advice and want him to check out what you’re doing, then expect a very honest response. That said Marc will go out of his way to ensure you minimise mistakes and is a font of knowledge on what works and what doesn’t in business. He really is the Best Kept Business Secret!

You share valuable lessons and tools alongside real life examples, whilst managing to keep the atmosphere of the room fun and energised throughout the day. I learnt the importance of developing strong alliances and partnerships, and how to reach new clients by understanding who they are and how to find them. You also gave specific advice to each of the attendees, offering each of us ideas on how to market ourselves differently, or offering new services, by helping us to think outside the box.
